About Phoenix Art

Exeter Phoenix has four distinct exhibition spaces that cater for a variety of visual arts activity as well as running a programme of artist’s talks & screenings and a range of visual art classes and workshops.

Phoenix Gallery is one of the city’s main contemporary art spaces, showing a variety of work by regional, national and internationally based contemporary artists. We aim to provide a programme of stimulating, challenging and engaging exhibitions, regularly commissioning and supporting the creation of new work and providing a selection of accompanying talks, screenings and activities.

Each September we host Exeter Contemporary Open, which brings together work from some of the best emerging contemporary artists from across the UK and beyond.

Gallery333 is an intimate ‘window’ gallery space which exhibits small, contemporary art installations & interventions, often experimental and site specific to its compact dimensions of 125cm high x 74cm wide x 36cm deep, or if you prefer, 333 cubic litres!

The Café Bar Gallery is a platform for artists based in the SW region to show and sell a range of engaging contemporary work in the busy space at the heart of the building.

The Walkway Gallery displays the results of creative projects, groups, courses, and events emerging from the local community and partner organisations.

Exhibiting Opportunities

We do not currently accept proposal submissions for exhibiting in Phoenix Gallery although look out for annual opportunities such as Exeter Contemporary Open and the Digital Art Commission.

To submit your work for Gallery333 or the Café Bar Gallery, please email a brief artist’s statement about you and your work and a series of photographs showing examples of your work – as small jpegs or through a website link.

If you are interested in staging a community-based exhibition in the Walkway Gallery, please email a brief outline of the project, group or activity behind the proposed exhibition.

Email your submission to: art@exeterphoenix.org.uk

Please bear in mind that, as we receive a high number of exhibition proposals, it can take some time before your submission is processed.
