Twenty Feet From Stardom (12)

2013, USA, 91mins, 12, Dir. Morgan Neville

This Oscar winning documentary shines the light on the identities of the back up singers that usually live just beyond the spotlight. Interviewing the backup singers themselves as well as top musicians, Neville addresses the tensions between support, ego and stardom. In an enjoyable, energetic and lively feature, the film celebrates the talents of these unknown voices and highlights the regrets and sadness that comes with knowing that only few make the journey to centre stage.

The film features Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, Lisa Fischer, Claudia Lennear, Judith Hill, Tata Vega, Sheryl Crow, Mick Jagger, Bette Midler, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Stevie Wonder and many more musicians and singers.

Part of a Vibraphonic Festival double bill film screening
Also screening on this date: Northern Soul (15), 6pm. £5 each or book both films for £8.
