Molly Rooke

A collection of disrupted examples of tourist culture – such as souvenirs, photographs and postcards – that challenge our long-established ideals of the holiday to produce ulterior messages.

The relationship between found ephemera and the narrative that is bestowed upon these items by a viewer encapsulates Molly’s practice. Interested in collections of tourist culture such as souvenirs, photographs and postcards, she uses these source materials to challenge our long-established ideals of the holiday, often disrupting the originals to produce ulterior messages. Her interest circulates around the concept of manipulating the viewers understanding of a collection of objects through varying degrees of surface alteration.

Molly is an artist based in Exeter and is the course leader for BA Fine Art at University Centre Somerset, Taunton.
