Based on Serguei Kostine’s book about Vladimir Vetrov, a disgruntled official in the KGB who in the 1980s passed information to the French and Americans that which undermind the Soviet regime and contributed to its downfall. Carion takes the basic facts of the case and embellishes with a lot of character touches, covers an astonishing amount of geographical and narrative ground and juggles three languages – Russian, French and English – but never loses his way.
