  • Poland 2006 115 mins. Dir. Jan Jakub Kolski. With Janusz Gajos, Grazyna Blecka-Kolska, Wiktoria Gosiewska.

This brilliantly crafted piece explores the idea of science versus faith. A small monk community leads a seemingly uneventful life until they are visited by an art restoration expert and her daughter. Danuta Szaflarska (92 year old) stars in this gentle character study of the daily happenings of a sprightly nonagenarian woman as she experiences the final act of her life. A relic of the past like her big dachastyle house, Aniela runs into conflict with a nasty neighbour, who sees her property as an eyesore and is determined to buy it up and tear it down.
