Winner of the Palme D’Or at Cannes, Haneke uses something of the style of his acclaimed ‘Hidden’ with a mystery at its centre, as the events in a north German village in 1913 are recollected by a visiting teacher. Filmed in striking black and white, the private lives of the community, especially the children, are gradually unraveled.
