Virtual Cinema & Live Q&A: Coup 53

Virtual Screening & Live Q&A

Studio 74 may be temporarily closed, but we’re not going to let that get in the way of bringing arts and culture to Exeter. Welcome to Front Room Phoenix – our way of beaming online creative activity straight to your sofa!  Join us on Wed 19 Aug for a virtual screening of documentary-thriller Coup 53. The screening will be accompanied by a live online Q&A with Ralph Fiennes, the film's director Taghi Amirani and legendary editor Walter Murch (Apocalypse Now, The Godfather, The English Patient) on Thu 20 Aug.  You will be directly supporting Studio 74 – your local independent cinema – the revenue will be split between the distributor and the venue.

Coup 53

Dir. Taghi Amirani | UK, USA, Iran | 2019 | 119 mins
This fascinating documentary-thriller follows the story of American and Britain overthrowing democracy in Iran in 1953, told in extraordinary detail using never-seen-before footage and documents. Brought to life with a unique and mesmerising performance by Ralph Fiennes.  While making a documentary about the Anglo-American coup in Iran in 1953, Iranian director Taghi Amirani and editor Walter Murch (Apocalypse Now, The Conversation, The English Patient) discover extraordinary never seen before archive material hidden for decades. The 16mm footage and documents not only allow the filmmakers to tell the story of the overthrow of the Iranian government in unprecedented detail, but also lead to explosive revelations about dark secrets buried for 67years. What begins as a history documentary about 4 days in August 1953 turns into a live investigation, taking the filmmakers into uncharted cinematic waters. The roots of Iran's volatile relationship with Britain and America has never been so forensically and dramatically exposed.

Perfect 10

Dir. by Eva Riley | 2019 | 83 min | UK

14-year-old Leigh (impressive newcomer Frankie Box) lives with her neglectful father on the outskirts of Brighton. She’s a talented gymnast, training hard for her first competition despite her lack of confidence, some bitchy fellow gymnasts and little money to pay for her fees.

When an older half-brother appears at her house one night, Leigh’s lonely existence is altered. Mistrust gradually transforms into exciting new feelings as Leigh receives the attention she craves. But she is also exposed to the thrill and danger of moped crime.

Debut director Eva Riley delivers an assured and spirited coming-of-age story that explores with heartfelt sensitivity a sibling relationship. A keen visual style and lively soundtrack complete this portrait of wilful yet sensitive teenage-hood.

Papicha

Dir. Mounia Meddour | 1h48 | 2019 French/Arabic with English subtitles

Underground discos thud to the beat of dance music as men and women dress to the nines and slip through checkpoints to party the night away. Meanwhile, fingers on triggers, tensions mount between armed police forces and anti-government guerillas. This is Algiers in the 1990s.

What headstrong fashion student Nedjma – ‘Papicha’ to her friends – doesn’t know, is that her life is about to change forever...

Lifting the lid on the radical events of the Algerian Civil War, Mounia Meddour’s Papicha follows the trials and tribulations of a group of determined young women as they come face to face with a new, dangerous reality.

'Papicha is an Algerian word that refers to a funny, attractive, liberated young woman.'

Sam Carter

HOME WATERS ALBUM TOUR

+ Support from Ben Morgan Brown

In the ten years since winning Best Newcomer at the 2010 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Sam Carter has earned a reputation for vivid, narrative-driven songwriting and captivating live performances. Having made a spell-binding appearance on Later... with Jools Holland in 2012, Sam has gone on to tour the world, sharing stages with some of the finest guitarists and songwriters, including Nic Jones, Martin Simpson, Richard Thompson, and Chris Wood.
Following the release of his last album How The City Sings , Sam embarked on an extensive album release tour with his most ambitious live line-up to date, including shows with Folk Award-winning fiddler Sam Sweeney and pianist Neil Cowley (Adele, Neil Cowley Trio). Alongside a busy solo touring schedule, he continued to break new ground with his work in Folk Award-nominated electro-folk band False Lights, who released their second album Harmonograph to wide acclaim in early 2018. In demand as a session player, Sam was enlisted for a string of festival dates with Eliza Carthy’s Wayward band and for a national tour with Bella Hardy. In late 2019, Sam joined the ensemble for the touring folk theatre show ‘Rising Up: Peterloo 2019’, arranging and performing songs written by the Young’uns’ Sean Cooney alongside Lucy Farrell (Furrow Collective) and Jim Molyneux (Four Square, Kitty MacFarlane). This spring Sam Carter embarks on a national tour to support the release of his thrilling new album Home Waters. Recorded in a converted church in rural Northumberland, Home Waters captures the full force of Sam Carter’s heartfelt songwriting. Featuring the specially-assembled Home Waters String Quartet, the album’s rich emotional landscapes are exquisitely illustrated by producer Ian Stephenson’s cinematic string arrangements. Images of overwhelming floods, rising tides, and conflict-stricken seas sit alongside tales of love and loss, alluding to the search for a sense of belonging and stability in unfamiliar territory.

‘Sam Carter is a brilliant guitarist and songwriter who combines the observational with social comment and personal reflection’ SONGLINES ‘A singer who can hold the audience spellbound all by himself’ R2

NOUVELLE VAGUE

15 years Anniversary Tour

Bossa Nova = Nouvelle Vague = New Wave. This transliteration was the starting point for Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux’s unique project, which, by appropriating the punk and post-punk cannon and running it through the Bossa Nova filter, reinvented the cover band genre, revealing new and brilliant talents along the way: Camille, Phoebe Killdeer, Nadeah, Mélanie Pain, and Liset Alea. The group’s first two albums, 'Nouvelle Vague' (2004) and 'Bande A Part' (2006) defined their unique sound with Bossa versions of New Wave Classics. Their third album 'NV3' (2009) featured collaborations with Depeche Mode's Martin Gore, Ian McCullouch from Echo and the Bunnymen, Terry Hall from The Specials, Barry Adamson, The Saints & Minimal Compact. Nouvelle Vague are Marc Collin, Olivier Libaux, Mélanie Pain, Elodie Frégé, and Liset Alea.

Elles Bailey

2019 was a hell of a year for the super-smoky-voiced, hard-working, far-touring chanteuse Elles Bailey. In March, she dropped her eagerly-anticipated second album Road I Call Home to rave reviews, with the album charting in the Official UK Country Charts & Americana charts, gaining over 1.3 million streams since its release and reaching No.1 on the Amazon Blues Bestseller chart Like its chart-topping predecessor, Road I Call Home features co-writing contributions from high-calibre collaborators, including British hit-making legend and Ivor Novello Award winner Roger Cook, storied Memphis and Nashville giant Bobby Wood, as well as Dan Auerbach (of Akron, Ohio powerhouses The Black Keys) on the infectious Little Piece of Heaven. As a self-confessed ‘rolling stone’ – Elles genuinely does call ‘the road’ home. She’s continued her wide-ranging headline touring throughout the UK and Europe and was also special guest support for Grammy Award winner Mike Farris, Martin Harley, The Kris Barras Band and King King. 2018/19 has also seen Elles Bailey move up the festival listings becoming a featured artist at key festivals including Black Deer, Swing Wesplaar, Ramblin’ Man Fair, & The GB R&B Festival. She also headed stateside for the International House Of Songs Summit in Arkansas and played Nashville’s Americana Fest. No surprise but 2020 is full of tour dates for Miss Bailey on the road that she really does call home. When she arrives near you, don’t think twice, get there. TANKUS THE HENGE

Tankus the Henge have built their reputation on unforgettable songwriting, spectacular live performances and relentless hard work, playing hundreds of shows across Europe and building a devoted fan base along the way. '..I love that. It reminds me of a mixture of early Kinks, Squeeze and a bit of Blur mashed in. His voice is his own, …so great. I love it.' DAVE DAVIES – THE KINKS Their funk-fuelled repertoire is wildly eclectic, ranging from New Orleans inspired swing to heavy rock riffs, and since their beginnings in the ratty alleyways of London’s Soho, the band has evolved into a wild groove machine. Musically inspired by bands from the British invasion of the 60s and artists such as Tom Waits, Blur, Randy Newman and Queens Of The Stone Age, and with lyrics influenced by 20th Century American Literature, specifically the Beat Generation and Gonzo journalism, Tankus the Henge defy categorisation. Their hair-raising show, like no other, has to be seen and heard to be believed. Like a psychedelic, rock n roll octopus – only with four more legs. Buy the ticket, take the ride.

Viruses That Improve Our Health

We think about viruses as harmful to us, but research by our speaker Martha Clokie shows that some improve our health. These tiny viruses known as ‘phages’ do this by invading bacteria, multiplying, and bursting out, eventually destroying their host. When these are bacteria that attack our bodies, this could be beneficial—our enemy’s enemy is our friend.

Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest threats to global health. As a result, a growing number of infections—such as pneumonia, sepsis and diarrhoea—are harder to treat.

Professor Martha Clokie is leading the fight against antibiotic resistant bacterial infections with this vital research. In particular, her work shows the potential for the use of phages against superbugs such as Clostridium difficile, Salmonella, and Borrelia (the causative agent of Lyme disease).

In May 2019, headlines around the world told the story of the successful phage treatment of Isabelle Carnell-Holdaway, a sufferer of cystic fibrosis who contracted tuberculosis, who was initially given a 1% chance of survival.

As antibiotic resistance increases, and previously treatable diseases are left without a cure, our speaker asks if phages have a greater role to play in modern medicine.

The fascinating history of phage therapy dates back to the 1910s in Georgia, but never reached widespread use following Stalanist purges, Cold War politics, and the wider use of antibiotics.

BIOGRAPHY: Professor Martha Clokie

Professor of Microbiology, University of Leicester

Martha’s interest is in understanding the ecology and molecular biology of bacteriophages and their relationships with bacterial hosts; both in bacterial pathogens and environmentally important bacteria.

Her work focuses on the exploitation of bacteriophages and phage-derived products as an alternative to treating antibiotic resistant bacterial infections.

Facing extreme temperatures, a constantly shifting landscape and the threat from predatory polar bears, polar scientist turned explorer, Felicity Aston and a team of ten novices from across Europe and the Middle East ski across the frozen Arctic Ocean to the North Pole. An international team of women from across Europe and the Middle East that skied the last degree to the North Pole in April 2018. The expedition faced many physical challenges like temperatures down to -38°C and shifting pack ice, but the core purpose of the expedition was to foster greater dialogue and understanding between women from Western and Arabian cultures. Multi award winning contemporary folk duo Jackie Oates and John Spiers meld together their love of English traditional folk tunes and songs with their voices and acoustic instruments, resulting in a fresh sound that is uplifting, joyful and poignant. John and Jackie, already admiring of each others' work, met through the vibrant folk scene of Oxford and its surrounding villages, after Jackie moved to the area in 2011. They began playing music together shortly after, through regular appearances at Nettlebed Folk Club, special festival sets, a live set for BBC Radio 3 and Johns contribution to Jackie's 7th album 'The Joy of Living'. Jackie and John are looking forward to introducing their new music to audiences beyond Oxfordshire and recording a full length album during early 2020.

The Simmertones

+ The Embezzlers

+ The Reggaskas

Over the past decade The Simmertones have established themselves as one of the UK’s leading authentic ska and reggae bands. These nine South West musicians regularly get packed venues and festivals jumping with their exciting and infectious live sound. The band are frequently played on BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music, particularly by Jo Whiley and Steve Lamacq, who have playlisted their songs Run For Your Life, Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps and Dr Who. The spring of 2018 saw the release of an eagerly awaited, brand new studio album entitled 10 Feet Tall. The Simmertones’ previous album Something For The Weekend? won Best Album at the South West Music Awards in 2013. The album received worldwide airplay, as well as rave reviews from Ruby Turner and members of The Specials and Madness.
'Really great to see this hardworking, dedicated band pushing on with confidence. Real infectious and got me bopping along!' RUBY TURNER 'This Simmertones album is so uplifting! Hypnotic, thirst inducing tunes.' LEE THOMPSON, MADNESS

The Embezzlers

The Embezzlers are a 6 piece, 100% Live, ska band based in Exeter, Devon. Playing the best in ska and 2tone from Desmond Dekker, Toots and Jimmy Cliff to The Specials, The Selecter, Madness and The Beat, and there's even a tiny little bit of The Clash thrown in for good measure!

Going back to the late 70s and early 80s the sounds of the likes of  Madness, The Selecter and The Specials were floating around on the airwaves, uplifting the spirits. That music still does that to this day because ska and 2tone is a movement that unites people.

Comprising of a bunch of highly experienced and extremely dedicated musicians , The Embezzlers have every base covered with a top notch horn section, killer keys, perfect off beat strings, crazy tight drums and all fronted by 'Murph'... Front Man with more energy than a Gallon of Red Bull! If you can keep up with him, then you are a true 'Bezzler!

The Reggaskas

The Reggaskas are an eight-piece female-fronted band, with a strong rhythm section accompanied by a lively horn section. Performing unique original songs and a few covers with an energetic reggae/ska vibe, which guarantees to get the crowd dancing.

Founded in 2014, The Reggaskas first single Who's the Daddy went down a storm.  Releasing their first album called Long Way Home in 2016, which has been played across local and national radio stations. Playing live at many festivals, weddings, and pubs over the years, this is a band not to be missed.

Creating that unique sound has to be the bond between the band-members who share the same passion for the music and the creative spark to make something unique.

The band's line-up consists of two lead vocals and front-girls Lizy Eames and Rozie Bond. On horns, we have Mike Bourne on Saxophone, and Steve (Fester) Bourne on Trumpet. The unmistakable rhythm section we have Ken Taylor on the keyboard, Chris Reeves playing lead guitar, Dave Nicholson on Bass, and Harry Colridge on drums.

With a new album in progress, which I’m sure will bring you that unique Reggaskas sound which they create live on stage.

Simon Munnery | Alan Parker Urban Warrior Farewell Tour

Show And Tell present

Multi award-winning comedian Simon Munnery reprises his notorious alter ego, the bedsit anarchist Alan Parker Urban Warrior. Once the most radical, now the only radical, Alan returns with the old gold, the old truths, and some new truths (based on the old truths). For over 35 years, Munnery has performed around the world, experimenting with and innovating the stand-up form. In the 1990s, his Alan Parker: Urban Warrior character took the comedy circuit by storm, garnering Munnery his own BBC Radio 1 series, which Time Out London called ‘the funniest thing on Radio One’ and a residency on ITV’s Saturday Live.

1996 saw him collaborate with Graham Linehan and Stewart Lee for BBC2 show, London Shouting, in his Alan Parker guise, and the character also become a regular contributor to NME magazine.

Simon Munnery is a British Comedy Award nominee, Perrier Award nominee, Sony Radio Award winner and Chortle Award winner. He’s most recently appeared in C4’s acclaimed Flowers, and will soon be seen in Will Sharpe’s Louis Wain movie biopic, co-starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy.

Lanterns On The Lake

+Drift Chamber

+Wyldest

It’s strange – not to mention fundamentally disconcerting - to live through turbulent times. Yet as many feel like the world is slipping out of control, artists are enlivened as they seek to make sense of the shifting sands. Hazel Wilde of Lanterns on the Lake is now a songwriter necessarily emboldened. On Spook the Herd, the band’s fourth record, her voice and preoccupations rise to the fore like never before. In tandem, the band break new ground on a set of songs that are unavoidably direct – and crucial. Wilde does nothing less than dive headlong into the existential crises of our times. Beginning with the record’s title - a pointed comment at the dangerously manipulative tactics of ideologues - its nine songs turn the microscope to issues including our hopelessly polarised politics, social media, addiction, grief and the climate crisis. The world is brought into focus, but Wilde’s style is not declarative. She also proves herself a songwriter possessed of a rare talent for finding the personal contours to contemporary issues, fully inhabiting them to make them real. On “Baddies” she sings of the lacerating division in our online spaces with knowing, biting irony as simply commenting deepens the rift. “Blue Screen Beams” is a litany of worries - fallible idols, paranoia and hopelessness, technological distractions worming into consciousness, broken relationships - but finds a steadying refusal to give up hope in the centre of the storm. As she says of her work, the process is “...exploring what it’s like to live this point in time - not just as an observer but as someone experiencing it: it’s where a personal life and politics are intertwined, because the two aren’t mutually exclusive.” Recorded as live where possible, the band’s natural touchstones of gauzy dream-pop and monumental post rock still float in the air, but listening to Lanterns on the Lake now feels like actually sitting in the corner of the room as they play. As guitarist and producer Paul Gregory says of approaching a fourth album, “There was a sense of release in terms of what kind of music we felt we could make. The idea of what kind of band you’re supposed to be really disappeared. It was great; you felt you could do whatever you like.” Musically, this is a leaner Lanterns on the Lake – at times unusually stark. Their sound has been beautifully winnowed into something more pared back, urgent and direct – in-keeping with Wilde’s messages - on an album loaded with songs marked by an arresting intimacy. “Swimming Lessons”, first teased as an in-progress idea on Instagram, is writhing and supple as Gregory’s arpeggiated guitar dovetails with Ol Ketteringham’s pulsating drumming and Wilde’s keening vocal. “Every Atom” rides on insistent beats which lay a bed for a warped and playfully robotic guitar line, while “Secrets and Medicine” weaves and lopes achingly, weaving its atmosphere from Spartan means: piano, celestial guitars and diminished brass.
While Wilde pored over the bulk of the songs in isolation before the band developed and finessed them, remarkably Spook the Herd marks the first time the band has left their native Newcastle upon Tyne to record in a studio. Moving to Distant City studios in Yorkshire, where Joss Worthington engineered the album, shook up comfortable mindsets. Wilde admits: “We are a pretty insular band in how we work, and trusting other people enough to allow them to get involved is not always easy for us.” Yet once recording began, any trepidation was swept away. The band barrelled through sessions, finishing the record in just three weeks. This uncovers the threads of a long-term musical understanding that Wilde, Gregory and Ketteringham share, and it’s invigorating to hear them regathered. Lanterns on the Lake, completed by bassist Bob Allan and viola player Angela Chan, have always known how to cannily manipulate texture and space. But rarely before have they captured such sheer presence. Stripping layers away, unearthing their essence, proves to be a new alchemy as their sound is writ large at its boldest – and its simplest. Yet Wilde’s romantic streak is still the record’s beating heart. It can be a characteristically dark one, as in the obsessed narrator of “When it All Comes True”, or its counterpoint in the last-night-on-earth abandon of “Before They Excavate”. Mining emotion in our fractured times unearths an inescapable truth: despite our seemingly myriad differences, all we have is each other. It’s a hopeful beam of light shone into the darkness, and balances the cynicism and dread elsewhere. As stately drums thud and guitar feedback wails and roils and rises around her on closing track “A Fitting End”, Wilde sings - almost presciently - “What a die-for moment this turned out to be.” Spook the Herd contains plenty such moments to discover and savour.

Jack Lukeman

Jack Lukeman is an Irish singer-songwriter, performer, raconteur and a whole lot more besides. A platinum-selling, critically acclaimed artist in his homeland, in recent years Lukeman has devoted more of his time to winning a growing fanbase in the UK and abroad. In this regard, he has toured the UK as Special Guest on tours by artists as varied as Imelda May, Jools Holland, The Proclaimers and Neil Sedaka, and is currently promoting Magic Days, his latest album of idiosyncratic original songs. Lukeman is a compelling, dazzling stage performer. Incorporating the theatrical and romantic sensibilities of the likes of Jacques Brel, but with genuine melodic appeal and a knack for creating his own ‘magic realist’ world that is peopled by all manner of unusual, picaresque characters – Lukeman is a rare, unusual brand of performer. The best music artists know that the world of the recording studio and onstage are two entirely different mediums – Lukeman’s recordings are colourful, absorbing collections, but it’s in the live environment, where his stage craft and desire to inspire really take flight. Despite the many achievements he has notched up in his lengthy career, Lukeman still has the hunger and drive to take his music to new audiences. During 2019 he takes to the road in the UK with his own headlining shows, and more special guest appearances with Caro Emerald, The Proclaimers and Jools Holland – other highlights include opening for Sting in July in Bonn, Germany – offering yet more proof of the outstanding versatility and unique talent of Jack Lukeman. From clubs to concert halls, theatres to festivals, Lukeman has the performing power and compelling presence to win over the most demanding of crowds.

The Handsome Family

+ Daniel Knox

Odessa, originally released in 1994 and Milk And Scissors in 1996 will be re-released by Loose Music is 2020 and available for the first time in vinyl. The Handsome Family have written some of the most haunting and beautiful songs in American music. During a 30-year career, Brett and Rennie Sparks have created songs that transform the mundane landscape of modern life into a place of mysterious portent. Handsome Family songs take place in parking lots and big box stores, under overpasses and in airports. They sing about Custer’s last stand and automatic lawn sprinklers in the same song. Rennie’s lyrics often focus on the myriad creatures that live at the edges of the man-made world: the sparrows, rats, cockroaches and crows that share our cities. Many great songwriters have covered their work, among them Jeff Tweedy, Jason Lytle, and Andrew Bird as well Christy Moore. David Bowie wrote the words, 'The Handsome Family' in a notebook right before his death. Who knows what could have been. Handsome Family shows are famously relaxed. Their songs can be dark, but there’s always laughter on stage. Rennie sings as well as plays Autoharp, banjo, and uke bass. She often introduces songs with seemingly unrelated stories. Brett, with his stentorian voice, is a powerful presence at the centre of the stage. There are a lot of new faces at shows these days, lured by 'Far From Any Road' which became a global hit after it was used as the theme to season one of True Detective. Both Bruce Springsteen and Guns ’N Roses and have used 'Far From Any Road' as walk-in music.

Wille & The Bandits

+ Troy Redfern

The band’s latest album Paths encapsulates the excitement and gusto of rock and roll. The album is a breath of fresh air challenging the listener while embracing technology and instrumental possibilities that are afforded to musicians in current times. The singles Find My Way and Four Million Days were playlisted on Planet Rock with Find My Way making it on the A-list for three months. Wille & The Bandits manage to encompass musical diversity which makes their music so appealing. They adopt the musical essence, nostalgia and discovery of the late 60's and 70's and mix rock and roll with a contemporary approach, combining elements of world music, dance music and hip-hop, all of which creates something unique. The Bandits have toured with the likes of Deep Purple, Status Quo, Joe Bonamassa, the Jon Butler Trio and Warren Haynes. In 2014 the band was voted in the Top Ten bands to see at Glastonbury. They also played the Isle of Wight festival as well as at the London Olympics, picked to play by being voted one of UK’s best Live acts. Other festival appearances include Boardmasters and several festivals in Europe. Don’t believe our word but Blues in Britain magazine thinks Wille & The Bandits are eclectic and highly recommend everyone to experience them live. Powerplay magazine describes the band as authentic sounding. The rest of the media has nothing but good things to say about the band, and highly recommend the best way to get the most out of them is by seeing them in concert. The band just returned from their first American tour which included a dream gig in Nashville.

BOB LOG III

Bob Log III, Fat Possum recording artist and one man band crown prince of punk blues from Tuscon, Arizona. Witnessing Bob Log live is an unmissable and unforgettable experience. By rights he should be a punk blues stadium super star. He takes to the stage with his face masked in a crash helmet with a black visor and a telephone wired in it for a mic and wearing a blue jump suit. Bob then unleashes a torrent of hardcore Mississippi Delta blues, hip hop beats and punk rock. The crash helmet telephone distorts the vocals and his hands, arms, legs and feet become a blur of jump suit clad limbs as he plays slide, triggers drum machines and drums with his feet simultaneously. Bob Log’s identity and history is shrouded in mystery and rumour, probably helped by his stage get up and also when his record company Fat Possum put out an early press release claiming Log had a monkey’s paw grafted on to his wrist after a boating accident as a child.  In fact Bob Log III was born in Tucson, Arizona and is a virtuoso slide player who plays with extremely thick strings tuned very loose that gives him his unique “floppy” sound. Growing up, Log listened to artists such as Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and AC/DC. Bob Log got his first guitar at the age of 11, and by the age of 16 he had become smitten with Delta Blues, modelling his slide guitar style on that of Mississippi Fred McDowell. Log began his music career recording with Mondo Guano, a four-piece metal-blues band based in Arizona. Upon leaving Mondo Guano, Log went on to perform as one-half of seminal early Delta punk blues duo Doo Rag. Bob Log III was born when Bob was in the middle of a US tour with Doo Rag and his drummer quit. With necessity , ever the mother of invention, Bob donned a helmet he had picked up in a thrift store, took to the stage and kicked his guitar case for percussion and thus the legend of Bob Log was born. In this current world of homogenised and mass marketed music, we need true mavericks like Bob Log III more than ever.

Leveret

ANDY CUTTING • SAM SWEENEY • ROB HARBRON

Leveret is a unique collaboration between three of England's finest folk musicians. Andy Cutting (button accordion), Sam Sweeney (fiddle) and Rob Harbron (concertina) are each regarded as exceptional performers and masters of their instruments. Together their performances combine consummate musicianship, compelling delivery and captivating spontaneity. Leveret’s music is not arranged in the conventional sense and the trio rely on mutual trust and musical interaction to create new settings of their repertoire in the moment, with no two performances alike. Their playing is relaxed and natural, drawing audiences in and inviting them to share in music making that is truly spontaneous and yet deeply timeless. Fiddler Sam Sweeney was the 2015 BBC Folk Awards Musician of the Year, directs the National Youth Folk Ensemble and is known for his work in Bellowhead and The Full English, and his new solo album The Unfinished Violin. Melodeon genius Andy Cutting, a four-time BBC Folk Awards Best Musician, is a compelling solo performer and works with Blowzabella, Topette, June Tabor, and Roger Daltry. Concertina wizard Rob Harbron leads the English Acoustic Collective summer school and is known for his work with The Full English (Best Group and Best Album BBC Folk Awards 2014), Emily Portman, Emma Reid, and Jon Boden. Leveret's music is firmly rooted in the English tradition but sounds fresh and new. With their first three albums and over a long string of sell-out gigs, the trio have built a strong reputation as superb musicians, fine tunesmiths and captivating performers. On their new album Diversions they have brought their trademark groove, energy and intuitive playing to bear on a newly unearthed set of upbeat and accessible traditional gems – truly great music from a band at the top of their game.
'Music of a rich, sinewy immersion, guided by a mutual sense of exploration, space and a very English kind of swing. It’s an intimate, contemporary reinvention of the source material' THE GUARDIAN 'This glimmering set of instrumentals cuts unfailingly elegant lines' THE SUNDAY TIMES  'Sublime, exquisite music – don't miss them' MARTIN SIMPSON

A hotel room, a chambermaid and a dead woman. It’s not what it looks like, really, it’s not. It was self-defence... and anyway the woman was asking for it. The chambermaid considers herself to be a pretty normal person; she reads books. She pretended to read the party manifestos at the General Election. She’s even read The Psychopath Test and she’s pretty sure she’s not one so... After rave reviews and sold out shows at Edinburgh Fringe 2018 and Vault Festival 2019, Ladykiller is a blood- soaked morality tale about victimhood, power and flipping the gender rule book on psychopathy. Charting one woman’s journey from violent oppression to bloody revolution, it is the (gruesome) quintessential jet-black comedy for the age of the gig economy.

Massive Wagons (At Exeter Cavern)

+ Special Guests

If ever there was a band that personified the phrase 'good things come to those who wait,' it’s Massive Wagons. Whilst the Lancaster hard rock quintet have been active for a decade now, 2018 was the year the band truly made their mark on the music industry, touring with the likes of Status Quo, Dead Daisies and The Wildhearts, and landing at No. 16 in the UK Top 20 with their fourth LP, ‘Full Nelson’.
Massive Wagons have come a long way since their humble beginnings as a pub band. Whilst they’ve maintained a keen work ethic and steady release schedule since day one (chalking up an impressive discography with 2011 debut ‘Fire It Up’, 2014’s ‘Fight The System’ and 2016’s ‘Welcome To the World’), the thought that they’d one day be sitting pretty in the charts alongside their childhood heroes seemed like a far-off pipe dream, even just 12 months ago.

Hayseed Dixie

Hayseed Dixie began in the Summer of 2000, when Barley Scotch (aka John Wheeler) stumbled across a wrecked car on an isolated mountain road in the hills of Deer Lick Holler, East Tennessee. While going through the car (as one does in such a situation), Brother Barley found a collection of vinyl record albums by a group he had never heard of called AC/DC. Taking these records back to town and playing them for his buddies on the only thing they had to play them on, a 78rpm Victrola, nobody had heard such sounds since the last time Uncle Virgil caught his leg in the grain elevator, and it was forthright revealed to Barley Scotch and the boys that the Lost Highway of Hank Williams and the Highway To Hell on these albums were in fact the very same damn road.

The boys set out to record some of these new songs in their own mountain music style, and thus was recorded the first Hayseed Dixie album, A Hillbilly Tribute To AC/DC, which contained stark-raving-plastered re-workings of 10 classic AC/DC songs. Released worldwide on April 17, 2001, and much to the surprise of everyone involved, this debut album proceeded to sell more than 150,000 copies in the first year of its release. So the boys hit the road in the Summer of 2001 to play some live shows, chase some women, and drink some beer and whiskey. And they haven’t stopped since.

Now . . . about the BRAND NEW ALBUM! Released worldwide on February 14, 2020, Blast From the Grassed is the Hayseed Dixie’s 16th studio album. Here the band bring the retro party in full force with moonshine-inspired re-imaginings of guilty-pleasures songs from the Golden Age of Pop-Rock. It’s suitable for home or office. If you already love Hayseed Dixie, then you’ll love this album too. If you think Hayseed Dixie suck ass, then this record with simply confirm that for you (for the 16th time).

★★★★★ - The Hayseed’s berserk hedonism is indeed refreshing!' THE GUARDIAN

Glenn Tilbrook

Glenn Tilbrook

Glenn Tilbrook has more than earned his place at pop’s top table as one of our most cherished singers, guitarists and songwriters, not to mention an in-demand and endlessly endearing live performer. But more than 40 years after he first answered an ad placed by Chris Difford looking for like-minded sorts to form the band that became the much-loved evergreen Squeeze, an ending is nowhere in sight.

Such is the continuing work ethic of a fellow who’s never been far from the action since Squeeze made their recording bow with the Packet Of Three EP in 1977. Those humble three tracks led to such enduring pop classics as Take Me I’m Yours, Cool For Cats, Up The Junction, Another Nail In My Heart, Tempted, Labelled With Love, Black Coffee In Bed, Hourglass (this could go on for a while...), not to mention landmark albums like Argybargy, East Side Story and Some Fantastic Place.

Squeeze’s demise in 1998 (though not permanent) saw Glenn embark on a solo career that spawned the albums The Incomplete Glenn Tilbrook (2001) and Transatlantic Ping-Pong (2004), showcasing an ever-maturing songwriting talent. In 2009 came the fantastic energy of Pandemonium Ensues, an album made with his solo touring band The Fluffers. Arguably, though, Happy Ending is Glenn’s most personal work to date, a series of evocative portraits of time, people and places, that included writing and vocal contributions by his own children Leon and Wesley, in addition to old friends Simon Hanson (Fluffers/reunited Squeeze drummer) and Dennis Greaves (Nine Below Zero, also Glenn’s compatriot in the side project band The Co-operative).

Anyone who has witnessed Glenn on the live stage can attest to the properness of his doings, as it were. Armed with ready wit, raucous vibes and a shed load of grin-inducing great songs, there are few musicians able to connect with their audience on such an immediate and warm level. The ever burgeoning festival circuit is frequently enriched by Tilbrook the troubadour, whether he be leafing through the plentiful back catalogue of Squeeze or dashing off impromptu audience requests ranging from Jimi Hendrix to Tony Orlando & Dawn, and all points in-between.

‘John Shuttleworth's Back’... is giving him trouble.

Years of strenuous DIY, not to mention playing his organ whilst perched upon a multi pack of Diet Sprite with no lumber support, has taken its toll. The Undercover Hippy

Drum and Bass MC turned singer-songwriter Billy Rowan, aka The Undercover Hippy, is definitely not your average singer songwriter. Described by Tom Robinson (BBC6Music) as being 'like the love-child of Steel Pulse, Kate Tempest and The Sleaford Mods', his music brings together powerful messages, infectious reggae rhythms, and the lyrical delivery of a skilled MC. Combining intelligent, provocative lyrics with dangerously catchy hooks and a feel good groove, this is music for the thinking man to shake his arse to. Think Natty meets Eminem…on a protest march…at the Edinburgh Fringe. Renowned for the electric atmosphere of their live shows, Billy and his band have performed at some of the UK’s best festivals, including Glastonbury, Boomtown Fair, Shambala, Green Man, The Secret Garden Party, Ireland’s Electric Picnic, and many more. As the music clocks up over 6 million streams on Spotify, the band have been clocking up motorway miles, touring relentlessly, with over 80 shows and festival appearances across the UK and Europe each year. One of Billy’s biggest strengths is the way he manages to pack his songs full of political and social commentary, whilst at the same time remaining playful and uplifting, and in this respect the new album does not disappoint. Covering topics from fake news, internet privacy and the U.S. election, to nappy wearing barristers and best friends trying to snog your mum, this album once again takes you on a rollercoaster of storytelling and thought provoking protest pieces.
'The band lit up the venue with their tongue-in-cheek yet poignant music' CLUNKMAG REVIEW 'Politically charged reggae that sticks two fingers up to the powers that be' CHRISTOPHER MCBRIDGE, FRESH ON THE NET 'This is about as real as music gets!' Daoirí Farrell

Winner of two BBC Folk Awards 2017: The Horizon Award for best newcomer and Best Traditional Track Three times nominee for the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards 2019
Dublin-born traditional singer and bouzouki player Daoirí (pronounced ‘Derry’) Farrell has been described by some of the biggest names in Irish folk music as one of most important singers to come out of Ireland in recent years. After a promising debut album, The First Turn, back in 2009; Daoirí spent several years studying traditional music and performance across Ireland. While at The University of Limerick Fintan Valley introduced him to the singing of the late Liam Weldon, an encounter that was to prove formative to his sound and his approach to folk song. Daoirí had cut his teeth as a singer in Dublin’s famous Góilin Singers Club and at other sessions across the city, many of which he still visits regularly. Following his studies he quickly found work accompanying artists including Christy Moore, as well as a list of names that sounds like a who’s who of folk music: Dónal Lunny, Martin Hayes, Dennis Cahill, Alan Doherty, Danú, Dervish, Julie Fowlis, Arty McGlynn, The John Carty Big Band, Kíla, Sean Keane, Gerry O’Connor (Banjo), Gerry O’Connor (Fiddle), Lynched and more. In 2013 he won the All Ireland Champion Singer award at the Fleadh in Co. Derry, and in 2015 won the prestigious Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections in Glasgow with the line-up FourWinds. Daoirí finally stepped into the limelight launched his own solo live career at the 2016 Celtic Connections. His determination not to put out another album until he was sure it was the best he could produce, means the long-awaited release of True Born Irishman in October 2016 was hugely anticipated. And indeed when a stream of the album was accidentally leaked online for around an hour in July, it was being shared and retweeted within minutes. The ten track album was recorded in Dublin across the first half of 2016 and was produced by Daoirí with Tony Byrne and Robbie Walsh. It features contributions from, among others, Michael McGoldrick, and is dedicated to departed Irish traditional singer Liam Weldon. As the final touches were being made to the album, and as a relative unknown to the UK audience, in May 2016 he was invited to fly to Manchester to do a live session on the BBC Radio 2 Folk Show with Mark Radcliffe. Two UK tours and UK festival dates followed in 2016 including Moseley Folk Festival, Broadstairs Folk Week and FolkEast. Calls were coming in from across the world and dates were put in place in Australia, Canada, Belgium, Denmark and more for 2017 alongside a co-headline tour with 2016 BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominee Damien O’Kane, who contacted Daoirí online after seeing a video of him on Youtube. The video which Damien O’Kane spotted was of Daoirí’s live performance of Creggan White Hare from The First Turn which has quietly reached over 1m hits. What the press have said about True Born Irishman: ‘On only his second solo album this former electrician surely steps into Irish folk legend….Put his ferocious and dramatic version of Van Diemen’s Land against the pitiful U2 Rattle And Hum rendition and the depth and intensity of Farrell’s art is clear. Bold and Undeniable.’ **** Daily Mirror ‘It’s not hard to understand why the mighty Donal Lunny has championed him…An album that could yet prove to be one of the most significant Irish releases of recent years.’ **** Songlines ‘True Born Irishman is definitely one of the year's outstanding Irish music albums; you owe it to yourself to hear it.’ Fatea ‘Farrell has created quite a buzz in Ireland…it’s easy to hear why. His powerfully unadorned vocals might be from any era, variously recalling Paul Brady and Andy Irvine…it’s a powerful statement.’ **** Mojo In February 2017 the BBC announced that Daoirí Farrell had received three BBC Radio 2 Folk Award 2017 nominations – more than any other artist that year. He was subsequently asked to perform at the awards ceremony on 5th April at The Royal Albert Hall – broadcast live on BBC Radio 2 with highlights on BBC4 TV and went on to win the Horizon Award for best newcomer and Best Traditional Track Award for Van Diemen’s Land from the album True Born Irishman. In 2017 and 2018 he appeared at festivals including the National Folk Festival (Australia), Fairbridge Festival (Australia), Cambridge Folk Festival, Dranouter Festival (Belgium), Tønder Festival (Denmark), Sidmouth FolkWeek, Electric Picnic (Ireland), Vancouver Island Folk Festival (Canada), Celtic Colours Festival (Canada), and more. In February 2018 he toured as part of the line-up for The Transatlantic Sessions playing major UK venues of up to 2,000 capacity. His third album A Lifetime Of Happiness produced by Dónal Lunny was launched on 15th February 2019 with a sold out show at Dublin’s legendary An Goilin Club. Reviews confirm that this is yet another leap forward for Daoirí.  Don't miss your chance to see Daoirí Farrell live in Exeter this October.
‘Daoirí is one of the most important traditional singers to emerge in the last decade’ DÓNAL LUNNY ‘I’ve been listening to Daoirí’s emerging sounds since first hearing him at the Góilin Singers Club in Dublin when he was a young lad….always a treat to hear him sing.’ CHRISTY MOORE 'It doesn't get much better than that. The real deal. What a voice.' MARK RADCLIFFE, BBC RADIO 2 FOLK SHOW ‘Daoirí played for ninety minutes. Watching, caught in the enthralling flow of the music, it felt like twenty.’ FROM THE MARGINS

Fired by his ongoing battle with mental illness, Shortly After Takeoff is the final, and finest, chapter of what Christinzio calls his “Manchester Trilogy”, following 2015’s “How To Die In The North” and 2018’s “Deportation Blues”. All three albums were created after the native Philadelphian had moved to Manchester. Like Deportation Blues, Shortly After Takeoff spans singer-songwriter classicism, gnarly synth-pop and ‘50s rock’n’roll, with Christinzio’s similarly distinctive, flexible vocal carrying a fearless approach to lyrical introspection, but the new album is a major leap forward in songwriting sophistication and lyrical communication. The “heavy stuff” has come thick and fast for Christinzio. Just days before How To Die In The North was released, he was deported and banned from the UK because of visa issues. Estranged from his new home, his girlfriend and his dog, unable to promote his album and back home with his parents, Christinzio sunk deep into the dark. An Italian passport, care of his grandparents, eventually allowed him to re-settle in Manchester, but then just days before Deportation Blues was released, his father Angelo unexpectedly died. Christinzio couldn’t tour How To Die In The North because of his deportation, but the shows following Deportation Blues played to increasingly larger audiences. Christinzio’s bombastic and intense live performances have earned him an ever-growing legion of devotees (and a recent nomination for Best Live Act by the Independent Music Awards) that see Brian as an “anti-rockstar”, an unfiltered talent. “I’m pretty sure the BC Camplight live experience isn’t something you can find elsewhere,” he declares. “It is a journey every night. One moment, I’m basically doing a stand-up routine and the next, the band and I are playing like we plan on dying that evening, giving our everything.” One regret is that his father never saw Christinzio experience any level of success. “I wish he could have seen what I’ve started to do here,” he says. “I certainly gave that guy more grey hairs than he deserved. He would have liked to see this.”

ROYAL GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY (WITH IBG) LECTURE SERIES

Matt Winning

It's the end of the world as we know it

A comedy lecture about how we cope with climate change and what we can do about it, from the 'attractively impish' (Guardian) environmental researcher and comedian Dr Matt Winning. The world as we know it is coming to an end regardless of whether we want it to or not. Here Matt explores what that means and considers what it must be like being a teenager nowadays compared to when he was young.  Matt Winning has performed five comedy solo-shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe including three about climate change. He has appeared on TV on BBC Scotland, Dave and Sky News as well as BBC Radio 4, Radio 4 Extra, BBC Radio London and BBC Radio Scotland, and written articles for Scotsman, Metro, Guardian, and New Statesman. Matt was a finalist in the BBC New Comedy Awards 2012. He is also an environmental researcher at University College London who publishes regularly on climate policy.

George Egg

Movable Feast

Direct from the Edinburgh Fringe 2019 comes a BRAND NEW comedy-and-cooking show for 2020 from the award-winning stand-up who makes real gourmet food live on stage. In his first show, ‘Anarchist Cook’, George made a meal in a hotel room with the complimentary appliances. In his second, ‘DIY Chef’, he was stuck in a shed cooking with tools. In this show he’s on the road! It’s time for Planes, Trains and Automob-meals (sorry). During an evening of live cooking and laugh-out-loud comedy about making food on the move George demonstrates ways to procure items from the train buffet trolley, beat the rip-off restaurant prices at the airport and even shows you how to turn unexpected road-works into a picnic. It’s cheeky, anarchic and creative, a multi-sensory show rich in humour and sprinkled with handy hacks. Real gourmet food cooked live in the most unconventional ways and with the opportunity to taste the results at the end, provided you can stop laughing.
'A culinary Bill Bailey, with chopping boards instead of keyboards. It is a multi-sensory delight' THE SCOTSMAN  'Brilliantly funny' JAY RAYNER, THE OBSERVER 'There is a mischievousness about Egg’s humour that is deeply loveable'  GRACE DENT, THE GUARDIAN 'The wonderfully talented George Egg is genuinely unique' THE INDEPENDENT 'A genius… he is the friendly face of anarchy, the anarchic face of food and the foodie face of comedy' SCOTLAND ON SUNDAY 'A hilarious show with surprisingly good food' THE TIMES 'It is refreshing to encounter a performer who really is unique' THE TELEGRAPH 'This is a triumph of out-of-the-box thinking – and tastes lovely too' METRO

Gong

This Is The Moment And Now Is The Time Tour

Fresh from providing the backing band for the incredible Steve Hillage, the ever metamorphosing entity that is Gong launches, as ever, into unknown – and unknowing – territory with a new tour for 2020, destined to be talked about, discussed, and argued over, up and down the land. From its beginnings in a French commune in 1967, through the Virgin Records years, mismanagement, court cases, break-ups and rejoinings, deaths and rebirths – there has always been a continuous thread of beautiful, dangerous and extraordinary music. The current holders of the flame have come together over the last eight years; sinuous bass player Dave Sturt joined just as the album 2032 was shown to the world; Ian East (Sax, Flute) was the next to blow in through the portal; Fabio Golfetti brought his guitars from Brazil (after working with Daevid Allen for many years); Kavus Torabi (lead vox and guitars) appeared to Daevid in a vision; Cheb Nettles (drums) just sort of turned up. In 2015, Daevid Allen passed away. His influence and legacy were honoured on the band’s subsequent album, Rejoice! I’m Dead! (2016). Over the past year Gong has performed with Steve Hillage Band (himself a former member of the 1970s Gong line-up) and released the critically acclaimed album The Universe Also Collapses (2019). Kavus Torabi takes up the story: 'Having ended 2019 by actually levitating The Paradiso in Amsterdam, 2020 will see the radiant vehicle of Gong play shows in Brazil and Japan, visit Chile for the first time and perform in fields across Europe, before returning to the UK for a headline tour. “November 2020 will be the most extensive UK tour of this Gong chapter thus far. We will be performing an immersive, expanded and transformative set which promises, at the very least, to affect the complete dissolution of ego and sense of self.'   Gong’s musically diverse world includes shades of psychedelia, space rock, jazz, avant-garde, krautrock and surreal soundscapes.

Robyn Hitchcock

Robyn Hitchcock is one of England's most enduring contemporary singer/songwriters and live performers. A surrealist poet, talented guitarist, cult artist and musician's musician, Hitchcock is among alternative rock's father figures and is the closest thing the genre has to a Bob Dylan (not coincidentally his biggest musical inspiration). Since founding the art-rock band The Soft Boys in 1976, Robyn has recorded more than 20 albums as well as starred in ‘Storefront Hitchcock’ an in concert film recorded in New York and directed by Jonathan Demme. Blending folk and psychedelia with a wry British nihilism, Robyn describes his songs as ‘paintings you can listen to’.
'A gifted melodist, Hitchcock nests engaging lyrics in some of the most bracing, rainbow-hued pop this side of Revolver. He wrests inspiration not from ordinary life but from extraordinary imaginings...' ROLLING STONE 'These 10 gems slither, rock, roll, glide and shapeshift, coalescing around Hitchcock’s typically anxious, strained but striking and immediately identifiable vocals.' AMERICAN SONGWRITER 'Beloved of everyone from Led Zeppelin to REM, Hitchcock has only enhanced his status with this wonderful outing.' HOT PRESS 'Witty, moving and seriously catchy, Robyn Hitchcock is a glorious return for a man who wasn’t really gone in the first place.' PASTE MAGAZINE

'Listening to Blancmange Obsessively. Probably the most under-rated electronic act of all time.'  MOBY

'Blancmange have been a part of the soundtrack to my life ever since 'Happy Families' was released.' JOHN GRANT

British electronic band Blancmange first broke through in the early 80s with their mix of synthesizers and surrealism, fused in groundbreaking singles such as 'Feel Me', 'Living On The Ceiling', 'Blind Vision' and 'Don't Tell Me'. The epic synthpop of 'Waves' and a cover of Abba's 'The Day Before You Came' illustrated a band who were always willing to change and adapt new styles within their electronic framework.

King King

'Best blues-rock band in the world' BLUES ROCK REVIEW

The mission is far from accomplished for the Glaswegian Rock band. 'We’re not stopping to smell the roses,” says lead singer Alan Nimmo. 'We want to take this band as far as we can!' ...And so it continues, don't hang about to get your tickets for this concert, King King are hot, and they are arguably one the best live acts out there at the moment.

Glasgow’s favourite sons have already been credited for 'setting the blues world on fire' (Classic Rock), nominated for Best New Band at the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour and handed back-to-back British Blues Awards. They’ve proved their mettle on bills with Thunder and John Mayall, triumphed as far afield as Mumbai and taken the roof off major venues from the 02 Glasgow to Wembley Arena.   King King haven’t wasted a moment of their white-knuckle career. Formed in 2010, the band’s four-album hot-streak includes 2011’s Take My Hand, 2013’s Standing In The Shadows, 2015’s Reaching For The Light and last year’s Live album that topped the Amazon Blues Chart and was called 'thumping-good' by Classic Rock.

Caravan

Caravan are considered by many to be the undisputed, unsung heroes of the British Prog movement. Often quoted as being one of the most formidable acts to emerge from the '60s progressive rock scene, over the years they have managed to achieve cult status and have maintained a passionate and diehard following. Originally formed in Canterbury in 1968, Caravan were at the heart of the 1970s burgeoning Canterbury rock movement, and produced their own brand of 'superior pop music, full of taste, craftsmanship and hard work' (NME) and packed venues worldwide. The current Caravan line-up includes Pye Hastings (1968 founding member: guitar, lead vocals), Geoffrey Richardson (joined 1972: viola, guitar, flute, vocals), Jan Schelhaas (keyboards), Jim Leverton (bass, vocals) and Mark Walker (drums, percussion).

Donavon Frankenreiter

The Record Player Tour

Donavon Frankenreiter has been writing, recording and touring his music for 20 years. With over a dozen full-length record releases and hundreds of songs written, the traveling troubadour has become beacon for funkified jams, stylish stomps and feel-good grooves. From his surf-inspired serenades to classic blues-rooted funk, the Donavon is always evolving. It would seem he’s just getting started… After a whirlwind of travel and months on the road touring, Donavon cruised his way back to the studio to get crackin’ on some brand new tunes. As the amps buzzed so did the excitement. His fresh collection of hand written scribbles on loose paper started to come to life before his eyes - manifesting themselves into 4 brand new tracks: Them Blues, Boom Boom, Is It You and Could Be One of Those Days. With the creative mojo flowing and growing, Donavon decided to keep on the gas. In July 2019, he released a new album aptly titled 'Bass & Drum Tracks'. Comprised of 16 songs (13 of his most beloved, classic tracks and 3 news ones) this assemblage of stripped-down jams gives the world a whole new way to get down, get creative and get into some good ol’ fashion Frankenreiter fun. Equal parts inventive and inclusive, this new 'Bass & Drums Tracks' record allows fans and music lovers all around the world become part of Donavon’s wondrous world in their own unique way. Whether you slay it on the saxophone, sing the blues or just toot on your trusty kazoo, there’s something on this record for you… Sing along! Play along! Start a band! To celebrate this new selection of tunes, Donavon will be promoting the release of the album and the new songs by performing it LIVE on their upcoming tours. Like usual, he plans to go worldwide for months at a time. Only this time, Donavon is bringing his love for vinyl records out on the road like never before… His long-time obsession with analog sound and vintage record players is making its way on stage! For 'The Record Player Tour', Donavon and his long-time right-hand man, Matt Grundy, will be playing their set as dynamic duo - with their trusty record placed between them. They’ll be dropping the needle themselves, LIVE in hi-fi, spinning the analog bass and drums on wax as their backing 'band'. It’s the sort of special twist that you don’t want to miss…
