Australian/Italian artist Angela Cavalieri explores the art of writing in visual form, often in large scale hand-cut lino prints, in which literary, religious and historical narratives eventually manifest as image.
Her sources include poetry, religious epitaphs and inscriptions on public buildings and fragments of experience and narrative find their form in enlarged, broken and repaired text.
Whatever the source, Angela’s inspiration derives from her migrant family background, Italian being her first language. It is this intimate and personal connection that Angela uses to play with the ideas and architectures of language, storytelling and culture.
She was born in Melbourne and has exhibited widely in Australia and internationally. Her visit to Exeter features as part the University of Exeters Translation! Festival and includes the presentation of her work as well as workshops and a Q&A session.
