An adrenaline-pumping evening of adventure driven short films.

With Off The Beaten Track, Studio 74 presents a collection of high octane, off road adventures in bite sized installments. While some deliver fast-paced adrenaline and exploration, others focus on the freedom and serenity that can be captured when humanity meets nature.

Whether running, cycling or climbing, these short films aim to take you across the line into unknown territories while presenting breathtaking landscapes, panoramas, tricks and challenges of the great outdoors.

Films

Many of these films aren’t certificated, but we expect content to be suitable for most audiences. Please note: though most films have been screened for swearing, it has not been possible to check all films in advance.

Icefall

Dir. Joseph Areddy, 2014

Winner of Sports Awards 2015, Best Cinematography at the Adventure Awards 2014 and winner of Jury Prize Swiss Mountain 2014, this beautiful short demonstrates the drama, bravery and exhilaration of night ice climbing. A tense and chilling exploration set to a dramatic soundtrack.

The Penguin Runner

Dir. Morgan Cardiff, 2014

The Penguin Runner is a film by Morgan Cardiff. In October 2012, South African Dave Chamberlain set off from Walvis Bay, Namibia on a 2,700 kilometre run to raise awareness for the African penguin. Four months later he arrived in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Solo and on a liquid only diet, this is footage and photography from the first five weeks of the run.

The Long Shot

Dir. Karen Turner, 2015

One Man. One Bike. Dartmoor.

Medal Winning Paralympian, James Bevis, suffered horrific injuries in a road accident and was told he would never ride a bike again. So he did what most people wouldn’t contemplate. He strapped himself to a mountain bike and rode across Dartmoor. This is his story.

The Balloon Highline

From Sébastien Montaz-Rosset

You won’t get much closer to Skylining than this! In this film the team left winter behind and headed to the sun to try and turn their latest dream into reality. They put up a line between 2 hot air balloons to try their first completely movable highline. This sky high film will keep you on the edge of your seat and give you breathtaking views from the top of the world.

Operation Moffat

Jen Randall at Lightshed Pictures

A BMC TV production, Operation Moffat is a film that takes inspiration and wit from the colourful climbing life of Britain’s first female mountain guide, Gwen Moffat.

Grappling with her preference for mountains over people, adventure over security, wilderness over tick lists, writer Claire Carter and Jen Randall climb, run, scramble and swim their way through some of Gwen’s most cherished British Landscapes.

Including candid interviews with 91 year old Gwen, a fresh take on landscape photography, previously unseen archive materials and unashamedly real action sequences, this film will capture Gwen’s infectious excitement for a life constantly seeking something strange or beautiful around the next bend.

The Runners

Dir. Ivo Gormley, Matan Rochlitz of Banyak Films, 2013

Pounding the tarmac through the seasons, a band of runners are brazenly challenged with intimate questions as they pace their routes. Liberated from responsibilities, their guards drop dramatically, releasing funny and brutally frank confessions, and weaving a powerful narrative behind the anonymous masses.
